August 8th: Datascope Launches AccuNet: New Wireless Data Solution for Vital Signs Monitoring

Datascope Corp. (NASDAQ:DSCP ) today announced the U.S. launch of AccuNet, a wireless software solution that, when combined with the Company's Accutorr Plus portable monitor, provides hospital staff with real-time health status updates by transmitting clinical data, via secure encryption, to a patient's electronic record.

The AccuNet software systematically minimizes paperwork, reduces costs and decreases the potential for error due to manual data transfers. The software records and charts patient data, including heart rate, blood pressure, SpO2 measurement, vital sign trends and temperature. The patient record is accessible to healthcare professionals at any location, including off-site physicians and clinicians via PDA, pager, mobile phone or the Internet.

"The launch of the AccuNet software will strengthen our leadership position in the $70 million-plus vital sign monitoring market," said David Gibson, president of Datascope's Patient Monitoring Division. "AccuNet is an effective patient monitoring solution for hospitals striving to overcome day-to-day challenges such as nursing shortages, high costs and human error. The software is easy to use, requires minimal training, and increases staff efficiency by promoting timely and accurate direct patient care."

Datascope Corp. is a diversified medical device company that manufactures and markets proprietary products for clinical health care markets in interventional cardiology and radiology, cardiovascular and vascular surgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine and critical care.

August 10th: KFx Medical Corporation Receives 510k Clearance for Knotless Tissue Fixation

KFx Medical Corporation, a developer of minimally invasive percutaneous repair systems for rotator cuff repair, announced today that it has received FDA clearance to market its SutureCross(TM) Knotless Anatomic Fixation System.

"KFx's unique double row SutureCross(TM) system has been in development for a number of years," said Tate Scott, President and CEO. "We will first use this system at select Centers of Excellence around the country prior to our full market launch."

Over four million people seek medical advice for shoulder pain every year; torn rotator cuffs alone account for more than 500,000 surgeries annually and have traditionally required many weeks of rehabilitation. Traditional minimally invasive techniques, although promising -- patients typically experience less pain and regain full range of motion more quickly -- require surgeons to have advanced arthroscopic skills. In contrast, KFx provides simple minimally invasive products for surgeons that enable a more anatomical repair for the patient.
Headquartered in Carlsbad, Calif., KFx Medical Corporation was founded in 2003 to develop clinically relevant solutions to rotator cuff repair. The company is privately held -- Investors include Charter Life Sciences, Arboretum Ventures, Montreux Equity Partners, and MB Venture Partners

August 11th: Teleflex Medical Launches Rusch EasyTube(R) - An Esophageal/Tracheal Double Lumen Tube

Teleflex Medical announced today the launch of the Rusch EasyTube®, a dual lumen endotracheal tube designed for difficult or emergency airway intubation and ventilation. The Rusch EasyTube creates a viable airway whether it is placed in the trachea or in the esophagus, fulfilling an important need in the difficult airway market. The Rusch EasyTube contains a latex-free large-volume pharyngeal cuff and tapers down from a dual lumen above the pharyngeal cuff to a single lumen at the distal tip, thereby reducing the potential for trauma in either the esophagus or the trachea. Additionally, the second lumen allows for the easy passage of a bronchoscope. The availability of a 28 french and a 41 french allows the clinician to reach a wide range of patients - the 28 french can be used on patients as small as three feet tall.

The Rusch EasyTube rounds out the existing Teleflex Medical family of airway management products, which includes the Sheridan line of endotracheal tubes, anesthesia breathing circuits, face masks, stylets, resuscitation bags, oral airways, and emergency devices. Teleflex Medical also features the Rusch brand of airway management products, which includes Trachlight and a complete line of laryngoscopes.

Teleflex Medical, a division of Teleflex Incorporated, is a leading global supplier of disposable medical products, surgical instruments and medical devices.
