"Critical Path" Paper Calls for Academic Researchers, Product Developers, and Patient Groups To Work With FDA To Help Identify Opportunities to Modernize Tools for Speeding Approvable, Innovative Products To Improve Public Health

The FDA is looking to the outside, that is academic researches, product developers and patient groups, to help accelerate new medical technologies to the marketplace. In a report titled, “Innovation Stagnation,” it provides the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA's) analysis of the pipeline problem -- the recent slowdown, instead of the expected acceleration, in innovative medical therapies reaching patients.

At least the FDA is aware of a problem and is looking to work with industry to try to come up with a solution.
