New Product Codes for Radiation-Emitting Electronic Products

Beginning Nov 20th 2005, new product codes are available for radiation-emitting electronic products. These new product codes replace the existing product codes for radiation-emitting electronic products, such as laser products, microwave ovens, television receivers, medical x-ray systems, sunlamp products and ultrasound therapy products. After mid-December 2005, current product codes will be discontinued and no longer be available so import documentation filed with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) must use the new codes. Import filers will receive notification of availability of the new codes and when old codes may no longer be used via CBP's Automated Broker Interface (ABI) administrative messages. Once the product codes are end-dated, import entries transmitted electronically via CBP's ABI system, using the old codes will be rejected by FDA.
